Nyamunyonyi Lake Resort sits on a peninsula of Lake Bunyonyi, one of Uganda's deepest lakes and home to 29 islands. We built the resort around three things: comfortable, unpretentious lakeside accommodation; genuine Ugandan hospitality; and easy access to gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, about 1.5 hours away. Nyamunyonyi Lake Resort began with a simple aim: build a place on Lake Bunyonyi where visitors could experience the lake's culture and landscapes without a large commercial footprint. We're a family-run, eco-conscious resort — solar power, local sourcing, and direct support for neighbouring Bakiga communities are built into how we operate, not add-ons.

Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda's deepest lakes and reputedly the second-deepest in Africa, with 29 islands scattered across its water. Known locally as "the place of many little birds," it draws bird-watchers as well as travelers heading to or from gorilla trekking. Punishment Island, a small island with a difficult history, is one of the more visited historical sites nearby. Swimming is generally considered safe, since the lake has no bilharzia and no dangerous wildlife.
